Card and Matting Measurements At A Glance

Commonly Used Card

The most commonly used card size in the US is called an A2 card. 

Standard Card front measures 5.5 x 4.25 made by cutting card stock 5.5 x 8.5                            

These have a landscape or portrait orientation

 You can also cut your card stock 4.25 x 11 and obtain a top or side fold card for a little different look but still be the same 5.5 x 4.25 size.

To create matting for a standard A2 card cut as follows:

·        For 1/8”  matting which is 1/8” border all around cut the piece

o   Layer one 5 ¼ x 4

o   Layer two 5 x 3 ¾

·        For 1/16” matting which is 1/16” border all around cut the piece

o   Layer one 5 3/8 x 4 1/8

o   Layer two 5 ¼ x 4

·        For a combination

o   Layer one 5 ¼ x 4

o   Layer two 5 1/8 x 3 7/8  (this leaves a 1/8 border around layer one and a 1/16 border around layer two)

Slimline Card Measurements:

While you can adjust slimline cards from   to   the most popular size is 3 ½ x 8 ½.  These will fit in a standard business envelope.  To make a slimline card this size cut base card 7 x 8 ½, score at 3.5 and use in either landscape or portrait orientation.   You can also make the slimline cards 4 x 9 ¼ and they will still fit in the standard business envelope which measures 4.125 x 9.5.
